Ongoing Groups allows the possibility of change by questioning old patterns of behaviour and beliefs. Growing up within patriarchy both women and men are socially conditioned to gaze through a negative lens particularly in relation to the functions of women’s bodies and gender role assignations . My work is an accumulation of experience both personal and clinical. My major research at postgraduate level examined the history of societal beliefs that engenders and maintains this negative and stereotypical thinking. This unchecked and frequently unconscious source maintains disrespectful and limiting behaviours and beliefs about women, their bodies, and expectations in life. I have also been heartened by the increasing number of fathers who have consulted me over the years to assist them in helping their daughters to retain their self-worth in a frequently hostile culture.
